Can you polish steel?

Yes. There are many methods that bring back the lustre and depth of steel including polishing pad, wire wool and tin foil. 

 

Can you polish chrome?

Yes. Unlike steel, chrome is much softer and requires a more gentle method otherwise you might make the tarnishing worse. 

 

Can you use wire wool?

Yes. There are different grades. Generally grade zero is good for getting off caked on exhaust residue.
